Unique Master Thesis Opportunity for a developer interested in web and mobile development (React, TypeScript)

• You get an opportunity to join a startup-minded product-oriented company, to develop a new consumer-targeted gamified platform in the field of finding nearby activities and interesting places

• We reserve time for writing your master thesis. The topic is adjusted among your interests, but is related to our ongoing research and product development. From research point of view you get to solve a real world challenge, but you will also be part of making the results into a real product.

• Possible themes include:

  • Location and context-aware recommendation algorithms combined to physical routing of the user

  • indexing location and activity information from websites and developing metadata standards in this field

  • gamified enriching of place and activity information

• Possibility to co-operate with the leading organizations in the field of travel, nature and culture.

What does Zoneatlas do?

We help outdoor, tourism and culture destinations to make stunning custom interactive maps with user friendly editing, importing and integration experience.

We are also publishing our own gamified social app to give and get recommendations from other users, assisted with AI.

Earlier we did mainly tech dev & consulting, but switched focus to providing solutions as SaaS, and we are also targeting to make our map-making tools directly online-purchasable.

We have operated till date mainly in Finland, but we have our first international customers and together with you we want to build better ability to work on international markets.

On technology side we mainly utilise TypeScript/JavaScript, React.js, PostgreSQL and Serverless node.js.

We have worked with various travel destinations, state organizations, cities and companies during our journey. As we continue to serve travel destinations, we are also building our offering towards serving it directly to consumers in a form of mobile apps and a web platform.

How is the work at Zoneatlas?

We work in hybrid mode with lots of freedom of working location selection given to our colleagues.

We do have a nice café-like office in the city center of Tampere, located at street level in an old retail space. We have a nice green view from our big windows, and in summertime when having doors open, neighbour dogs walk in from doors to get their treats. You are welcome to bring your own dog as an office dog, and some days we do have one with us 🙂

The office space has a working area with standing desks, lots of green plants, multiple hanging around + meeting areas and a basement for gaming and meetings. We like good coffee and have also constantly ice cream and beverages in your and your friends use.

Why are we searching for a Master Thesis Worker?

We want to be forerunners in our field both in design and technical field. We are currently joining a research collaboration in the field of individual travellers mobility and digital accessibility, where we want to develop a new operational model regarding crawling and gamified enriching of activity and destination information.

That’s why we want to want to find a person with ability both to do research and development with us. We aim for a win-win-win situation between you, company and the industry in general.

What do we expect from you:

• studies and expertise in the field of web and mobile development

• interest in great user experience,

• great interaction skills, initiative attitude and ability to get work done together

• we do value if you have done your own software projects, but we also want that people also have other interests than work

• work experience is not a must, but we do value it. Your studies should be in such a phase that you could dedicate at least almost full weekly working time for researching and developing with us

• The sooner you can start, the better. We have large product development efforts ongoing during the rest of the year, where you could get a deep-dive and introduction to our product and team.
