This privacy policy applies to the Zonemaps platform (https://zonemaps.net). Our marketing websites have separate privacy policies.

What Information We Collect

For Account Holders (Users)

  • Account info: Name, email, password
  • Billing info: Payment details (processed by Stripe)
  • Usage data: How you use Zonemaps (anonymized analytics via Matomo)
  • Map content: All maps, locations, and content you create

For Map Viewers

  • Analytics only: Anonymized usage data to improve map performance
  • No personal information collected

How We Use Your Information

For Users:

  • Provide and improve the Zonemaps service
  • Process payments and manage subscriptions
  • Send service updates and support messages
  • Send marketing emails (you can unsubscribe anytime)
  • Ensure security and prevent fraud

For Map Viewers:

  • Optimize map loading and performance
  • Understand usage patterns to improve features

How We Share Your Information

We don’t sell your data. We only share information with:

Service Providers:

  • Stripe – Payment processing
  • AWS (EU servers) – Data storage and hosting in Stockholm, Sweden
  • Email services (Brevo, ActiveCampaign, Pipedrive) – Marketing emails

All our service providers are GDPR-compliant.

Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights and users’ safety.

Your Content and Maps

You own your content. When you create maps, you retain ownership. However:

  • Published maps are publicly accessible to anyone with the link
  • Maps can be embedded on other websites
  • Don’t publish sensitive personal information you’re not comfortable sharing publicly
  • You can delete your content anytime, but cached versions may persist

Important: If your maps contain information about other people (business names, addresses, etc.), you’re responsible for complying with privacy laws and obtaining necessary permissions.

Data Security

We protect your data with:

  • Encrypted connections (TLS/SSL)
  • Secure AWS servers in the EU
  • Password-protected accounts
  • Regular security updates

You’re responsible for keeping your password secure.

Cookies

Essential Cookies: Required for login and basic functionality (cannot be disabled)

Analytics Cookies (Matomo): Help us understand usage and improve the service. We use self-hosted analytics with anonymized IP addresses. These are necessary for maintaining the service.

You can manage cookies in your browser settings, but disabling essential cookies will prevent you from using Zonemaps.

Data Retention

Active accounts: We keep your data while your account is active

Deleted accounts: Data is permanently deleted within 90 days (except billing records, which we must keep for 7 years under Finnish law)

Inactive accounts: May be deleted after extended inactivity with prior notice

Your Rights (GDPR)

You have the right to:

  • Access your personal data
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Delete your account and data
  • Export your data in a portable format
  • Object to certain types of processing

Data Storage Location

Your data is stored on AWS servers in the European Union (Stockholm, Sweden), ensuring GDPR compliance.

Age Restrictions

You must be at least 16 years old to use Zonemaps. For paid subscriptions, you need a valid payment method.

Marketing Emails

We may send you:

  • Product updates and new features
  • Tips and best practices
  • Promotional content

You can unsubscribe anytime by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email.

Service emails (billing, security alerts, important updates) cannot be opted out of while you have an active account.

Map Data: We use OpenStreetMap and MapTiler for map data. Their privacy policies apply to their services:
